With a nominal power of 10 MW, it will be developed by GNL Quintero and Acciona Energía. The electricity for the plant will come from a certified renewable energy supply contract through connection to the National Electric System.
GNL Quintero, a terminal for receiving, unloading, storing and regasifying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) located in the Chilean town of Quintera, Valparaíso region, has announced the approval by the Environmental Assessment Commission of said region (COEVA) of the so-called Green Hydrogen Project in Quintero Bay, which it is developing together with Acciona Energía.
In a statement, it is described that the project consists of the construction and operation of a green hydrogen plant (H2V), which will have a nominal power of 10 MW, and that the electricity for the process will come from a certified renewable energy supply contract through connection to the National Electric System.
"The green hydrogen produced - it adds - will be supplied to future clients, both in the industrial district of Quintero-Puchuncaví Bay and to other companies located in the central part of the country."
The plant, which will be installed within the GNL Quintero premises, will have the capacity to produce 1,600 tons of hydrogen per year.
The description presented states that an average daily production of approximately 1,800 kg/day is considered, considering a plant factor of around 42%, and that it will gradually increase to a maximum of approximately 1,600 t/year, equivalent to 4,320 kg/day of H2V.
Regarding its entry into operation, it is stated that "if the investment conditions are met, construction and technical testing are expected to take place during the next year."
According to information available on the official website of the Chilean Environmental Impact Assessment Service (SEIA), the project has an estimated investment of 30 million dollars. In this regard, GNL Quintero assures that the project was selected in 2021 by the state-owned Development Corporation (Corfo) to receive a subsidy of 5.7 million dollars; also that in 2023, the project was certified under the R&D Law, which generates a tax incentive for investments in research and development.
The project was submitted for consideration to the Environmental Assessment Service of the Valparaíso region in September of last year. |
