In an effort to strengthen flood management of more vulnerable areas, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the 497.42-meter-long flood mitigation project along the Maragayap River in the town of Bacnotan, La Union.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Region I Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the construction of the slope protection was implemented along the river’s portion in the agricultural Barangays of Guinabang and Calautit.
Costing P82.97-million, the scope of the completed flood control project includes the construction of a concrete, revetment, and grouted riprap with steel sheet piles to ensure the quality of the infrastructure.
The flood control structure along the Maragayap riverbank now ensures the safety of the local residents, reducing the risk of damage to their properties and livelihood against the destructive impact of heavy rainfall.
Funded under 2024 General Appropriations Act, the riverbank project in Bacnotan was carried out by DPWH La Union 1st District Engineering Office from February to July 2024. |
