Work Detail |
The land acquisition process for the Peroorkada flyover project has been completed, and the district administrations revenue wing has served eviction notices to the affected landowners. Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK), the agency overseeing the project, is poised to invite tenders for the demolition of buildings within the next two weeks. The construction tender is expected to be issued in January 2025.
VK Prasanth, MLA overseeing the project, confirmed that all land required for the flyover has been acquired. He added, “The demolition tender will be called within two weeks, with the demolition expected to take about a month. Once that’s completed, we will issue the construction tender, ensuring that work begins within this financial year.”
The proposed flyover will span 874 meters, starting near Peroorkada Lourdes Church and ending near Vazhuthacaud St. Jude Church. The total project cost is estimated at ?106.76 crore, with ?55.42 crore allocated for construction and ?43.39 crore for land acquisition. The flyovers design has been planned to minimize disruption to both commercial establishments and residential areas.
A total of 83 landowners have been compensated for the acquisition of land. The KIIFB-funded flyover is expected to ease the chronic traffic congestion at the busy Peroorkada junction, where four major roads, including those leading to Nedumangad and Kudappanakunnu, converge. The existing traffic signal system has failed to address the growing bottleneck.
The project, which has been a long-standing demand from motorists and daily commuters, was formally launched by Public Works Department Minister PA Mohamed Riyas in November 2021. To facilitate road widening, approximately 25 shops on either side of the road will be demolished. |
