Work Detail |
Renewable energy consultancy OWC will provide pre-FEED services for a 15MW floating wind project offshore Japan.
OWC was appointed by the Japanese engineering firm Kanadevia Corporation to demonstrate the floating offshore wind technology under the subsidy of Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
The subsidies from the organisation are used to commercialise floating offshore wind at a competitive cost, which is essential to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in Japan. The country has an abundance of deep water which requires floating wind turbines for offshore wind projects.
OWC’s role will focus on the first of several planned design iterations, with opportunities for the company to continue its support as the project progresses through its demonstration phases.
The demonstration project will take place off the coast of the Aichi prefecture and will run until March 2031.
“This is an important floating offshore wind project for Japan. With the complexity of the floater’s design and the scale of the project, we are proud to contribute to such innovative and forward-thinking work,” said Masataka Nakagawa, OWC’s floating wind team lead in Japan. |
