Work Detail |
Fincantieri-controlled Norwegian shipbuilder Vard has signed a contract for the design and construction of five walk-to-work vessels with an undisclosed international customer.
The five walk-to-work vessels will provide maintenance, supply, and operational services to offshore platforms in the oil and gas sector.
They are of the VARD 3 32 design which is based on the company’s prior SOV designs and features the latest hull design optimized for low fuel consumption as well as high operability.
The vessels, approximately 88m long with a beam of about 19.8m, are equipped with a diesel/electric and battery-hybrid propulsion system, a 3D motion-compensated gangway system as well as a 3D motion-compensated crane.
The ships will be built, outfitted, commissioned, and delivered from Vard’s shipyard in Vung Tau between the second half of 2027 and the first quarter of 2028. The Vietnamese facility recently completed an expansion program that boosted its vessel production from four vessels a year to seven.
In a separate statement, Fincantieri said that it was a ‘very important’ contract which represents a sale worth over $210m. |
