Access highway to Villa de Merlo: “It was a transcendental work requested by the residents”
The work to refurbish the southern access to Villa de Merlo via Provincial Route No. 1 was scheduled to be tendered this year. “A lot of work was done on the technical project, which brought with it a number of benefits,” lamented Jorge García, director of Provincial Roads after the tendering of the road work was halted by the judicial protection requested by Poggi.
The section would extend from the intersection with Av. del Sol to the central island of the roundabout located at the main access to the town of Cortaderas and Villa Elena. It would be 19 km with double lane, illuminated central median, shoulders, horizontal markings, vertical billboards, the construction of at-grade roundabout intersections and the expansion of culverts and bridges.
This project had an assigned budget of $28.650 million and a 30-month execution period. “The project was currently being called for tender and the call for tender was scheduled to open on October 17,” said Jorge García, director of the Provincial Highway Department.
“We were working on a safe, comfortable and agile access for Provincial Route No. 1 at the entrance to the town of Merlo. It is a work of tremendous importance that has been requested for a very long time, a lot of work was done on the technical project. The routes are very narrow to avoid any type of expropriations in the future,” said García.
The official also explained that a second section was planned that would run from Cortaderas to Papagayos, a third section from Papagayos to Villa del Carmen and a fourth section from Villa del Carmen to the town of La Punilla to complete the 97 km of Provincial Route No. 1.
One of the most notable policies of the Province is public works. The construction of the entrance to Villa Mercedes via National Route No. 8 and No. 7 and Circunvalación Avenue in the city of San Luis, which has been named “The work of the year” by the Argentine Road Association.
For his part, the work to refurbish the southern access to Villa de Merlo is a much-requested and necessary infrastructure, not only by the residents of Merlo but also by the inhabitants of Carpintería, Los Molles and Cortaderas, García clarified. He added: “This brings with it a number of benefits, including road safety, because today it is a densely populated area.”
In addition, the works that will be suspended due to this measure are: the repaving and hierarchization of Los Paraíso street access A9 Section Potrero de los Funes circuit-Potrero de los Funes square; the paving of 15 concrete blocks in the town of Naschel; the paving of the access road to UPrO and the Multi-Jurisdiction Court in Buena Esperanza. For the award, the link road between Provincial Route No. 9 Los Puquios Highway and the side street of Provincial Route No. 20 El Saladillo Highway will be suspended; in addition to the enhancement of 11 blocks of the downtown area, plus a speed bump in Concarán.
