Othar completed the opening of five tenders for works worth more than 1,100 million pesos
The tenders cover the construction of curbs and asphalting of streets in General Mosconi, Juan XXIII and Moure. The remaining works correspond to the expansion of the sewage collection network in Stella Maris and Laprida. “Although these works are small for some, for us they are big, because they dignify the quality of life of the people and we are not going to turn back from that,” Macharashvili said.
This Friday afternoon, at the headquarters of the Juan XXIII Neighborhood Association, Mayor Othar Macharashvili led the opening ceremony of public tenders, which include new paving works and basic infrastructure services to the northern and southern areas of the city.
On the occasion, the president was accompanied by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Luis Romero; the Undersecretary of the portfolio, Clarisa Méndez; the councilor, Ariel Montenegro, the neighborhood representatives: Romina Silva, (Stella Maris); Alicia Ovejero (Mosconi); Roberto Romero (Laprida); Víctor Bonzano (Juan XXIII) and Dora Gerez (Moure); members of the cabinet, businesses and neighbors.
After concluding the opening of envelopes, the mayor thanked the residents and neighbors for “trusting in the word”, expressing that “I appreciate the trust, because this administration comes from a 2023, with a budget made in 2023, approved in 2023 and with a devaluation in 2023, which shook the entire society, but the public administration much more.”
Along these lines, he explained that the devaluation also had a direct impact on local companies that had already started and were in execution of projects, and that not only have the responsibility of carrying out the construction, but also of paying salaries. However, he considered that with their own funds, progress was made on numerous infrastructure projects. “Today we have a significant accumulation of projects that we launched, that are in execution and others that are completing processes.”
Likewise, Macharashvili acknowledged that there are other works that are being evaluated for cost determination or in the process of contract termination, stating that "when one says to terminate a work, it is painful because it means going through the Court of Accounts again and going through the entire administrative process. This is happening in 2024, that is why the start that this administration had in public works was truly titanic, because everything we have tendered, we are doing it by administration, with funds that the neighbors contribute through their taxes and in sections as we tell the neighborhood residents, because it is impossible to carry out complete works only with a Municipal budget."
In this regard, the city chief valued the support of the councilors and the neighborhood residents, emphasizing that we will continue moving forward with the works that are requested "because the neighbor is ours and although these works are small for some, for us they are big, because they dignify the quality of life of the people and we will not turn back," he said, adding that "we will continue trying to keep our word and if we do not keep it, let us know. We want that in each neighborhood where we have works, the neighbors are the supplementary inspectors, since it is our commitment that they are done well," he emphasized.
For his part, the Secretary of Public Works, Luis Romero, mentioned that “it is a push that the neighborhood residents have, which leads us with the support of the councilors and with the pledged word, to the point where today with the budgetary extension we are developing the opening of tenders. The works are more than 1,100 million pesos, in a very complex year-end 2024 in economic, financial terms. The companies continue to support the Municipality, they continue to believe in the order it has in its economic area in its works area.”
Councilman Ariel Montenegro, representing UOCRA, stressed the importance of these works with municipal funds, indicating that the construction industry is grateful “because it generates a lot of employment for us. When these works are done simultaneously, it generates contention within the union. And to the bidding companies that participate and support the Municipality – he stressed – know that they will have the support of the union, as long as they are responsible with the neighbors and the construction workers.”
Five works for five neighborhoods
The Juan XXIII neighborhood councilor, Victor Bonzano, highlighted the importance of the paving works on one of the neighborhood streets by exclaiming that “we know what Azurduy Street symbolizes for the neighborhood, it is a job accomplished by the entire neighborhood team. We thank the Municipality because with this they give work to Comodoro neighbors, to local companies, but we ask that they be responsible with public works, take care of the money that belongs to all Comodoro residents and we as a neighborhood council and commission will be behind this work, following it so that it is done in a timely manner.” Meanwhile, Alicia Ovejero, Treasurer of the Mosconi neighborhood, detailed that “this work is a great emotion for everyone, it is progress and a benefit for the neighborhood. These blocks will help neighbors to move better on rainy days. We thank the Municipality for having remembered, they always support our requests,” she stressed.
Roberto Romero, a resident of the Laprida neighborhood, highlighted the sewerage work, saying that “it is often not valued because it does not shine on the street, but it does shine in health and sanitation. Since 2009, the neighbors have been waiting for this service. We have already had two successful tenders in the neighborhood, where they fixed Bogotá Street and the curb on Costa Rica Street. We thank Othar and encourage him to continue on this path, because these are works that provide work for local companies and workers from Comodoro.” Along the same lines, Dora Jeréz, a resident of the Moure neighborhood, said that the tender is confirmation of the meeting we had some time ago with Othar at the neighborhood association and that it bore fruit. There, the mayor promised us the asphalt, he promised us that it would come out and that it would come out in sections, and now we are going to make it happen.”
Finally, Romina Silva, a resident of the Stella Maris neighborhood, said: “For us, who find it very difficult to manage, to go after a note, to coordinate a meeting so that the work is done, to explain to the neighbor why it is not done and that everything takes time - she explained - today we can say that our neighborhood is 100% measured, we only have to install gas to 12 families, which must be requested by means of a note for that work to be done, but even in a hard year for everyone, from the neighborhood we managed to get more than 150 families with gas and water service. That is very satisfying because it is a job that we do with vocation and conviction.”
