Work Detail CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) has completed the first offshore installation campaign for the Hai Long offshore wind project in Taiwan, with all jacket foundations installed at Hai Long 2. The overall project includes two offshore wind farms, namely the 518 MW Hai Long 2 and the 504 MW Hai Long 3. Hai Long 2 is divided into two smaller phases, with Hai Long 2a at 294 MW and Hai Long 2b at 224 MW, and the entire development is being carried out in three phases. CDWE, utilising its Green Jade ship, the first offshore heavy lift DP3 installation vessel built in Taiwan, has installed all 37 jacket foundations, the offshore substation at Hai Long 2, and the foundation of the Hai Long 3 offshore substation. In addition, 111 out of the 219 pin piles were placed in position. The three-legged jacket foundations for Hai Long 2b and Hai Long 3 are manufactured by Samkang M&T and for Hai Long 2a by Century Iron & Steel Industrial (CIS) and Century Wind Power (CWP). The 1,022 MW project will feature 73 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbines, with the production of the first nacelles already underway in Taichung, Taiwan. The Hai Long Offshore Wind joint venture (Northland Power, Mitsui & Co. and Gentari) held a blessing ceremony in April this year, announcing the launch of the offshore construction. The offshore site of the Hai Long wind farm is located approximately 45-70 kilometres off the Changhua coast in the Taiwan Strait. In August 2024, several workers at the Hai Long Changhua onshore substation were struck down by a leak of carbon dioxide from the fire suppression system, which claimed the lives of three workers. However, the project schedule remains unchanged and the offshore wind farm is still expected to connect to the grid and begin generating power between 2025 and 2026, according to a Hai Long Offshore Wind spokesperson.
