Laurentis brings its expertise in nuclear services, including project management and licensing, to the partnership.
Laurentis Energy Partners has entered into an agreement with ORLEN Synthos Green Energy (OSGE) to support the preliminary work for small modular reactor (SMR) development in Poland.
The collaboration focuses on the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR), a key component for licensing GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy BWRX-300 SMRs in the country.
The PSAR is a comprehensive study, required by Poland’s National Atomic Energy Agency to demonstrate the safety of the BWRX-300 SMRs. It will cover environmental conditions, site characteristics, and other crucial factors for SMR deployment that will be prepared by Laurentis staff, based in Ontario, Canada.
OSGE CEO Rafal Kasprów said: “PSAR is one of the key elements of the whole licensing process for a nuclear power plant. By having such experienced partners involved in the project, we are confident that OSGE will deliver to the Polish nuclear authority a comprehensive report that meets all requirements of the Polish law.
“We are launching work on the first PSAR related to small modular reactors in the EU. This is a significant milestone in the SMR deployment process, and I believe it paves the way for bolder actions in other European countries, as well.”
Laurentis brings its expertise in nuclear services, including project management and licensing, to this partnership.
GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy executive vice-president for Advanced Nuclear Sean Sexstone said: “International collaboration will be crucial to the successful execution of new nuclear projects, so we are excited to work together with OSGE and Laurentis Energy Partners on this licensing requirement for deployment of our SMR technology in Poland.”
Laurentis president and CEO Jason Van Wart added: “Laurentis is excited to work with OSGE to take the next steps to establish the feasibility of small modular reactor deployment in Poland.
“As a company with experience and expertise in new nuclear services from conception to execution, including regulatory support, we are uniquely positioned to help OSGE progress its project to enable Poland to achieve its clean energy ambitions.”??
The agreement, valued at up to $40m, was signed in Polish capital Warsaw, attended by key officials such as Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Electrification Stephen Lecce. |
