Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led a delegation of MPs recently to review the development projects being carried out by Northeast Frontier Railways (NF Railways) in Assams Dibrugarh district, under the Tinsukia division. The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, along with other MPs, highlighted the importance of sustainable development that minimizes environmental impact, particularly focusing on the role of modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) in wildlife protection.
The meeting, attended by Assam BJP MPs Rameswar Teli and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and Nagaland MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, saw discussions centered on measures to safeguard wildlife, especially elephants, during railway crossings. Sonowal lauded the implementation of AI-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), which are designed to prevent accidents involving elephants at railway crossings. He also praised the use of canopy bridges for safe passage of arboreal species, calling these initiatives a significant step toward sustainable development.
The Minister further urged Indian Railways to fast-track the rollout of the One Station One Product initiative, which aims to create wider markets for local products and boost regional economies. He expressed confidence that the programme would promote products from the Northeast, known for their unique quality, while empowering local entrepreneurs.
