Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced recently that Jammu will soon have a separate railway division, as the Railway Ministry has approved the proposal. In a series of posts on X, Singh shared that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing the development of railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh highlighted that the new division will enhance Jammus railway services, especially with the upcoming rail connection to the Kashmir Valley, which will link the region to the rest of the country for the first time. The move will make Jammu a key railway junction.
He also noted that the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, led by President Sh Arun Gupta, had proposed the idea of establishing a separate railway division headquarters in Jammu. Singh mentioned that after discussions with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the proposal was accepted, and the process to set up the division has been initiated.
According to the chamber’s letter, granting Jammu full divisional status will improve train operations and create local employment opportunities. Currently, Jammu is part of the Firozpur division under Northern Railways. |
