Work Detail Global specialty chemicals leader Lubrizol and Chennai-based fluid conveyance system specialist Polyhose have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a greenfield manufacturing facility for high-precision medical tubing in India. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to break ground in 2025, with operations slated to begin in 2026. This venture aims to expand Lubrizol’s medical tubing capacity in India by five times, enabling easier access to advanced medical tubing for both domestic and export markets. The tubing will cater to critical neurovascular and cardiovascular applications, including balloon catheters and minimally invasive procedure catheters. “This agreement introduces precision manufacturing technology to India, opening up opportunities for the country to serve critical care markets locally and globally,” said Bhavana Bindra, Lubrizol’s Managing Director for India, Middle East, and Africa. The facility will produce medical tubing using Lubrizol’s advanced medical-grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and other thermoplastics, ensuring biocompatibility, high performance, and patient comfort. The unit will comply with ISO 13485 standards, ensuring safe and high-quality medical devices. Rebecca Liebert, President and CEO of Lubrizol, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “India is a hub for our innovation and growth. This investment reinforces our local-for-local and local-for-global strategy, positioning us to deliver world-class medical tubing while supporting India’s growing medical industry.” Lubrizol has invested over $350 million in India over the past year, underlining its commitment to the region. Recent projects include the opening of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Pune and the acquisition of a 120-acre site in Aurangabad for Lubrizol’s largest Indian manufacturing facility, focused on transportation and industrial markets. Additionally, the company is ramping up CPVC resin and compound production capacity in Gujarat to meet growing demand in the piping sector. Shabbir Y J, Managing Director of Polyhose India Pvt Ltd, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership’s expansion: “Our collaboration with Lubrizol over the past seven years has been a testament to our shared vision, and this MoU marks an exciting new chapter in our journey together.” The venture underscores Lubrizol and Polyhose’s shared commitment to advancing India’s medical technology landscape and reducing dependence on imports for critical care solutions.
