Work Detail |
The Cardiff Council has collaborated with national developer Wates Residential as part of the Cardiff Living program, which will create around 235 homes on the site of the former Michaelston Community College in Ely, Cardiff, UK.
The new development aims to support independent living with a strong focus on health and well-being. Cardiff Council and Cardiff & Vale University Health Board have collaborated to create community spaces for enhanced local services. The project includes 107 Community Living apartments for older residents to rent from the Council and an additional 128 homes for various age groups, which will be available for purchase on the open market.
The scheme will be a vibrant, accessible neighborhood designed to foster social connections and encourage a healthy lifestyle. A central plaza will feature a medical center, a community hub with multi-purpose rooms, a café, and a flexible workspace, connecting seamlessly with nearby homes. Outdoor spaces include a sports area, community gardens, allotments, and enhanced wooded areas. Green infrastructure and sustainable drainage are integral to the design, ensuring environmentally friendly and high-quality spaces throughout the development. |
