A recent nationwide survey, “Solar Spectrum of New India,” conducted by Luminous Power Technologies, sheds light on consumer interest and the barriers hindering the adoption of solar energy solutions in India. The survey highlights the growing awareness of solar energy but underscores significant challenges related to affordability and skilled labor.
The survey reveals that 52% of Indian respondents would consider switching to solar power if provided with easy financing options or loan solutions. Despite widespread awareness of the benefits of solar energy, 92% of respondents cited installation costs as the primary obstacle to adoption. While the availability of solar solutions is not a major concern, with 76% of participants reporting easy access to solar technologies, the price-sensitive population remains deterred by high installation costs.
In terms of regional adoption, tier 1 and 2 cities are seeing varied levels of interest in rooftop solar. Jaipur and Bengaluru emerge as the leading cities in terms of both awareness and adoption. Jaipur, in particular, leads with 79.71% of respondents acknowledging the advantages of solar energy, while Hyderabad has the lowest at 6.58%.
Specialized skills are another critical challenge, with respondents from Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Bengaluru expressing concerns over the need for expertise in solar installations. In Ahmedabad, 40% of participants pointed to a shortage of specialized training programs, while 63.3% felt there was a lack of awareness about career opportunities in the solar sector. Similarly, Chandigarh respondents highlighted the lack of company-driven initiatives promoting skill development in the industry.
Preeti Bajaj, Managing Director & CEO of Luminous Power Technologies, commented on the findings, emphasizing the need to address the identified barriers. “The Solar Spectrum of New India survey provides invaluable insights into the evolving interest in solar energy across India. While cities like Jaipur and Bengaluru are making significant strides in adoption, challenges such as high installation costs and the availability of skilled labor must be addressed to accelerate solar growth,” she stated.
She further added, “Creating awareness around financing schemes and establishing specialized training programs will be crucial in overcoming these challenges. At Luminous, we are committed to making solar energy accessible and affordable for every Indian household and will continue collaborating with industry partners to develop necessary skills and knowledge in this sector.”
Luminous Power Technologies remains dedicated to promoting the widespread adoption of solar energy in India, with a focus on affordability and skills development. |
