Taiwans offshore wind initiative to support export sectors green energy needs Synera Renewable Energy Group (SRE) has submitted of the administrative contract for the 800MW Formosa 6 offshore wind project to the Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan. The move comes at a critical juncture in addressing the export sector’s demands for renewable power while signaling a major step forward in both the island’s energy transition and the broader push for sustainability across the Asia-Pacific region, said the developer. SRE chairperson Lucas Lin added: “As a leading offshore wind developer in Taiwan, SRE understands the pressing demands for green power among semiconductor and other export-oriented industries and fully supports Taiwan’s renewable energy targets for 2030. “We are grateful to the central authorities, local government, and relevant stakeholders for their recognition and support of Formosa 6. “Moving forward, our team will adhere to regulatory requirements and work collaboratively with all partners to overcome challenges in our journey toward a sustainable future. Formosa 6 will be located off the coast of Xianxi Township, Changhua County, and marks SRE’s first venture into central Taiwan. The site spans approximately 84 square kilometres, with the nearest distance to shore being around 35km. The project secured 800MW development capacity in the second auction of Phase 3 Zonal Development of Offshore Wind in August. Once operational and connected to the grid, the wind farm is expected to power about 860,000 households. |
