Work Detail The service building will feature a control room for monitoring and managing wind farm operations. RWE has initiated the construction of an operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the Thor offshore wind farm in Thorsminde, Denmark. The company held a ground-breaking ceremony at the Port of Thorsminde to mark the official start of work on this service hub. The company stated that 50 to 60 people will be employed at the new facility, working in shifts to ensure the efficient operation of the wind farm. Representatives from Thorsminde Municipality, design partners ATRA Arkitekter and Frandsen & Sondergaard, construction company Østermark, and RWE attended the ceremony to launch the construction, which is anticipated to take around twelve months to finish. The service building will cover 2,300m² across three floors, featuring a control room for monitoring and managing wind farm operations, warehousing, open-plan office spaces with natural light, a conference room, and a canteen with a lounge atmosphere and a rooftop terrace. The design incorporates materials and colours that reflect the surrounding dunes and grass. The conference room will offer unique views of the North Sea to the west, overlooking RWE’s Thor offshore wind farm, and to the east, the Nissum Fjord. The team expects to move into the new service base by the end of next year. Starting in spring 2026, crew transfer vessels will transport workers offshore daily. RWE Denmark chief executive Pernille Asgaard Haaning said: “Our Thor offshore wind farm is located approximately 22km from the Danish Port of Thorsminde. “The port therefore offers the shortest sea route to the wind farm – making Thorsminde the ideal place for our new operations and maintenance base. “By investing several million Euros in Thorsminde and by creating up to 60 permanent jobs in the long run, we will contribute to the local economy and community.” In September, RWE began construction of an ultra-fast battery energy storage system at its Moerdijk power plant in the Netherlands.
