GE Vernova supplied two 7HA.02 gas turbines, one STF-D600 steam turbine, two HRSGs, and three H65 generators for the facility.
Tongyeong Eco Power’s combined-cycle power plant has started commercial operations in South Korea.
Located in Gyeongsangnam-do, Tongyeong combined cycle power plant boasts a capacity exceeding 1GW, enough to supply electricity to approximately one million homes in South Korea.
The LNG-fueled facility includes a 200,000cbm LNG storage tank. This move is in line with South Korea’s broader strategy to transition from coal to liquefied natural gas (LNG).
GE Vernova has supplied critical components for the plant, including two 7HA.02 gas turbines, one STF-D600 steam turbine, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and three H65 generators.
Furthermore, GE Vernova is set to provide 17 years of maintenance services for the gas turbines and generators, ensuring the long-term reliability and efficiency of the plant.
GE Vernova’s HA gas turbines are claimed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, with savings of more than 3.3 metric tonnes annually per unit. This is comparable to removing approximately 680,000 cars from the roads.
With more than 45 years of partnership with Korean companies, GE Vernova continues to support Korea’s energy transition and offers technologies aligned with the government’s goals.
The company’s gas turbines contribute more than 14GW to South Korea’s generation capacity, with an installed base exceeding 80 units.
