Work Detail NTPC Ltd, India’s largest integrated power utility, celebrated its 50th Raising Day, marking five decades of significant contributions to India’s power sector. Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD of NTPC, led the celebrations at the Engineering Office Complex (EOC) in Noida, joined by Directors on the Board and senior officials. Employees from across NTPC’s locations joined via video conferencing to mark the occasion. During the event, CMD Singh announced the virtual launch of hydrogen-fuel buses for operation in Leh. This initiative is part of NTPC’s commitment to adopting green technologies in transportation and is seen as a substantial step toward cleaner mobility in the region. In another key announcement, NTPC revealed a groundbreaking technological achievement: the successful synthesis of CO2 captured from flue gas combined with hydrogen produced from a PEM electrolyzer, which has been converted into methanol at NTPC’s Vindhyachal plant. This CO2 capture-to-methanol process is the first of its kind globally, underscoring NTPC’s advancements in sustainable fuel production. CMD Singh highlighted further innovations, including the development of Gen-4 ethanol, green urea, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and the production of India’s first indigenous catalyst for methanol synthesis. These initiatives, along with NTPC’s advancements in hydrogen and carbon capture technologies, reflect its long-term vision for an environmentally sustainable future. The event also saw the unveiling of NTPC’s new 50-year logo, designed with an infinity loop to symbolize the company’s ongoing commitment to growth and innovation. CMD Singh commemorated the visionary founders, including Dr. DV Kapoor, NTPC’s first Chairman, for their foundational role in NTPC’s success. The occasion also celebrated the achievements of NTPC employees’ children, with several new IT applications launched and a special comic book on NTPC’s flagship CSR initiative, the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), benefiting over 10,000 rural girls. “NTPC represents 50 years of powering growth, and our resilience has positioned us as a top-performing company,” said CMD Singh. “Our continuous progress in Renewable Energy, including the integration of nuclear power, reaffirms our ambition to create a sustainable future for India.” NTPC, supplying nearly a quarter of India’s power needs, maintains a diverse portfolio spanning thermal, hydro, solar, and wind energy. The company continues to prioritize best practices, innovation, and clean energy technologies in its mission to provide reliable, sustainable power across the nation.
