Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, while chairing a high-powered purchase committee meeting on Tuesday, approved infrastructure contracts worth Rs 249.77 crore for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). A total of 11 development projects were given the green light, aimed at enhancing the city’s road infrastructure, public transport, pedestrian safety, and water supply systems.
The approval includes works for the special repair of 64 km of master sector dividing roads and 17.2 km of service roads, with a total value of Rs 166 crore. Key projects under this category include the development and repair of roads in sectors such as 23, 58, 84, 86, and 90, aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion across Gurugram.
In addition to road repairs, three GMDA projects worth Rs 50.77 crore were approved to expand the city’s public transport infrastructure. These include the development of an e-bus depot at Sector-48, the construction of 154 new bus queue shelters across key routes like the Southern Peripheral Road and Dwarka Expressway, and the enhancement of the Gurugaman bus network.
The projects also focus on pedestrian safety, with the construction of four Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) at key locations, including Sector 14, Sohna Road, and CD Chowk, at a cost of Rs 16 crore. These bridges are expected to alleviate pedestrian traffic in high-traffic areas.
Another significant initiative is the Rs 16.40 crore project to install a Centralized Integrated Water Management System (CIWMS) along the 1300 mm master water supply pipeline. This project aims to improve water distribution efficiency, reduce water wastage, and ensure equitable water access across Gurugram, particularly in sectors such as 16, 17, and 25.
Thanks to effective negotiations with bidders, the GMDA was able to save Rs 7.96 crore on the total project costs, further boosting the impact of these development efforts. |
