Next Friday, November 8, the opening of envelopes will take place to learn about the offers within the framework of the public bidding for the Enhancement of the Plaza San Martín. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. on the corner of 25 de Mayo and Casey, where the statue of the founder of the city is located, and will be headed by Mayor Leonel Chiarella and the Minister of Public Works, Lisandro Enrico. In case of rain, it will be moved to the Cayetano Silva Regional Museum.
This project, which is the fourth in just a few weeks to be put out to tender for the city with provincial funds, has an official budget of 3.463 million pesos and a one-year execution period, adding to the recent projects for the expansion of sewers, the remodeling of the Municipal Park and the construction of the Ring Road, in a set of unprecedented investments for the city.
In this case, the intervention on the main square of the city will bring about major changes, including the complete change of sidewalks and modification of the surrounding streets, moving the flagpole, removing a large number of plaques and structures, and expanding and repurposing the games.
New location of the games, divided into two sectors.
The work includes the conversion of the perimeter streets into low-speed traffic spaces, leveling the pavement with the plaza in order to expand its surface area. This will create an intermediate sector between vehicular traffic and the plaza, creating a coexistence zone between pedestrians and vehicles, aiming to improve the safety of pedestrians.
On the other hand, the current childrens games are being removed to be relocated to other public spaces in the city, creating two separate play areas in Plaza San Martín, differentiated by age.
The sidewalks will be replaced with granite mosaics to unify the colors and textures, including the placement of bands of tactile pieces, which will provide full accessibility to the plaza.
It is also highlighted that “the different plaques, reminders and busts are relocated for better visualization, while the statues of San Martin and the deer representative of the city are being highlighted. This new arrangement is reinforced by the repositioning of the flagpole on the east-west civic axis, which will allow for better use of the square for public events,” the project states.
All these tasks will be accompanied by a new lighting proposal for the central area, as well as an improvement of the lighting in strategic points. The tender states that the three-dimensional letters of “Venado Tuerto” will be removed, but in later statements Mayor Chiarella assured that this photo spot space will be maintained, although renovated.
As for the trees, it was decided to remove the ash trees on the outer sidewalks and on the inner sidewalks 25 de Mayo, Moreno, 9 de Julio and Belgrano, to be replaced by other species. |
