Procurement News Notice

PNN 81402
Work Detail Brazilian and Paraguayan companies are participating. This is an initiative to install a pilot project that will be located on the Paraguayan side of the reservoir. The energy generated will partially cover the internal consumption of the plant itself. Today, the public session for opening the envelopes for the call for proposals for the provision, installation and start-up of the pilot project for a 1 MW floating solar system in the reservoir of the Itaipú hydroelectric power plant was held, to which six binational consortia, made up of 14 companies from Brazil and Paraguay, have submitted bids. The entitys Renewable Energy Superintendent, Pedro Domaniczky, said: "The floating solar plant is a 1,000 kilowatt pilot project and this experience will serve as a basis for scaling up or expanding the project. It represents a scheme of solar panels, which are mounted on floats and the advantage is that the solar panel acquires greater performance with the evaporation of water." The statement said that once awarded, the floating solar plant - with an estimated value of 1 million dollars - will have a four-month installation period on the Paraguayan side. In the first stage, the infrastructure is expected to be assembled in the experimental phase, then it will be the turn of the coupling and verification of the SCADA (acronym in English for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and monitoring systems. An additional 180 days will be added for technical support, training and final receipt of the product. The pilot floating solar plant is expected to have an estimated annual generation of between 1,800,000 and 2,000,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) that will be injected into the internal grid of the hydroelectric plant, although it is anticipated that coupling it to battery energy storage systems in the future is being evaluated. The Itaipu Permanent Tendering Committee will evaluate the technical documentation and commercial offers submitted by the consortia, made up of companies from Brazil and Paraguay, in which each market must have a minimum participation of 30%. In addition, they must comply with the qualification requirements and others established for each country in the public call for tenders. The tender was launched last July , with the opening date for the envelopes set for last September, although the latter date was extended until now.
