The Emirates Energy Award (EEA) is set to launch a new program to raise awareness about sustainable energy solutions among university students. This initiative is part of the award’s commitment to educating future leaders on the importance of clean energy and its role in fostering a more sustainable world. By engaging students, the program aims to highlight the critical need for adopting advanced technologies and innovations in renewable energy, aligning with global goals for sustainable development.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Chairman of the Emirates Energy Award emphasized the role of students as future scientists and leaders. He noted that the EEA has consistently promoted renewable energy awareness and addressed climate change challenges, in line with the national and international efforts led by the UAE’s leadership. Al Tayer expressed confidence in the potential of young innovators to contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions through their creativity and sector-specific contributions.
Additionally, His Excellency Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Vice Chairman of the EEA Executive Committee highlighted the award’s theme for its fifth edition (2023-2025), titled “Empowering Carbon Neutrality.” He stressed the importance of educating students on the link between energy, the environment, and the economy. By fostering an understanding of these relationships, the award aims to prepare students to lead the transition toward clean energy and protecting natural resources for future generations.
In previous editions, the EEA has seen participation from universities and academic institutions recognized for their innovative clean energy projects. For example, in the 2022 edition, the German Jordanian University won the silver award for its large-scale solar energy initiative, while the University of Dubai was awarded for its Zero-Energy Solar Campus project. The 2017 edition also saw notable contributions, including the Hashemite University in Jordan receiving an award for its 5 MW solar power project, and the American University of Sharjah for its smart utilities measurement system.
This commitment from academic institutions has inspired the EEA’s awareness programs for students, aimed at equipping them with knowledge about the critical role of renewable energy in combating climate change, protecting the environment, and supporting sustainability. These programs also emphasize innovation and creativity as key drivers of progress in the renewable energy field.
Established by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the Emirates Energy Award serves as a global platform for recognizing efforts in energy conservation and management. The award showcases public and private sector achievements in promoting renewable energy, implementing sustainable solutions, and advancing energy-sector innovation. Through these efforts, the EEA continues to raise awareness of the importance of sustainability and environmental preservation, fostering a future that prioritizes clean and renewable energy sources. |
