A consortium that brings together IRSA, Coto and Banco Hipotecario presented the remodeling of the Mercado del Plata; it will have more than 700 apartments, with an investment of US$100 million
The Edificio del Plata will bring together more than 700 apartments, targeting middle-class consumers and a square meter will start at $3,000.
Leading the repopulation of the downtown area is, nothing less, the goal set by the consortium headed by the IRSA group and which has just announced the launch of the Mercado del Plata building, the largest real estate project - in terms of the number of units that will go on sale - in the city of Buenos Aires.
The initiative contemplates the enhancement of the old Mercado del Plata that operated for several decades - as municipal offices and contravention courts - a few meters from the Obelisk, in the block formed by Sarmiento, Carlos Pellegrini, Perón and Pasaje Carabelas.
The project, which was formally presented today, will bring together more than 700 apartments - mostly small units, targeting a middle-class public, with a value per square meter starting at 3,000 dollars and the attractiveness of financing from the Mortgage Bank, which will grant mortgage loans for up to 80% of the value of the apartments.
The initiative involves the enhancement of the old Mercado del Plata, which operated for several decades - as municipal offices and courts for minor offenses - a few meters from the Obelisk.

Behind the project is a consortium made up of IRSA, Banco Hipotecario itself and the Coto supermarket chain. The investment in the project is around US$100 million.
“We are very pleased with our initiative and the fact that a trust has been formed that brings together the best of the real estate market to carry out a project that, we trust, will be the starting point for the transformation of the downtown area,” said Jorge Cruces, CIO of IRSA. “In addition to the work, the project foresees the full recovery of the surroundings of the Edificio del Plata, including the Pasaje Carabelas,” he added.
IRSA highlighted that the building will have amenities such as an indoor and outdoor pool located on the terrace, with infinity edges and a view of the Obelisk, a gym, a health center, a coworking area, a meeting room, a multipurpose room, a rooftop bar with free access to one of the most emblematic views of the city, a pre-connection for an electric car in each garage, bicycle storage and storage rooms. In addition, it will have a very big commitment to gastronomy. “The ground floor will offer various culinary proposals to enjoy outdoors. Integrated with the Pasaje Carabelas, it will add a green area to the city, promoting recreation and community interaction,” the developer explained.
