Construction work on the “Capitán Vicente Almandos Almonacid” International Airport in La Rioja is progressing.
The project, which began on December 10, 2018, includes the construction of a new passenger terminal with the aim of continuing to guarantee quality services and maximum operational safety.

The new terminal of La Rioja International Airport will have 3,600 m2 and a new VIP lounge. The installation of the cladding has already been completed and the construction of the 200-vehicle parking lot is 25% complete.
The works at Almonacid Airport are divided into three stages: terminal, parking lot and platform. The construction of the new passenger terminal will not affect the air service, since while the works are in progress, the airport will continue to operate with the existing terminal, as normal.
About the new terminal
The new terminal will have a total area of ??3,600 m2 and will be built on a single floor that will optimize passenger circulation. 1,300 m2 will be operational space, consisting of a 500 m2 public hall, a check-in area with 6 counters, a new baggage carousel and pre-boarding area of ??330 m2, an arrivals area of ??290 m2, an office space for airlines of 165 m2 and a VIP lounge of 66 m2.
The building will feature two predominant materials: stone and glass. Stone will be the local reference material, as it will be Laja La Rioja, which is composed of reddish and ochre tones. Glass will be the global reference material. Being a seismic zone, all materials will be placed under the necessary technical specifications so that this geographical condition does not damage them.
In addition, it will have a technical building and a permanent control post (covered and semi-covered area of ??700 m2). 50 m2 will be used for commercial premises and the gastronomic offer will be in two sectors, one in the hall and another in the pre-boarding area.
Finally, the works will be completed with the extension of the aircraft parking platform, which will have a surface area of ??8,000 m2 to 15,000 m2. I dont understand here if until now it was 8,000 and from now on it will be 150,000 or if it is a margin of use.
