Work Detail |
It is expected that from 2026 it will generate enough fluid to supply heavy-duty trucks integrated into the logistics-forestry chain. It will also have a 3.9 MW solar plant. The total estimated investment in the project is 38.6 million dollars.
At an event also attended by the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay, Elisa Facio, the Kahirós project was presented, an initiative that aims to supply green hydrogen to heavy-duty trucks from the company Fraylog, dedicated to providing logistics transport services to the forestry sector, starting in 2026.
This is a green hydrogen production plant, to be located in the city of Fray Bentos, department of Río Negro, obtained from the energy generated in a solar plant that is also part of the project.
In addition to Fraylog, the initiatives partners include the sustainable mobility company Fidocar and Ventus, a developer of renewable energy plants. The projects investment is estimated to be around 38.6 million dollars.
In a statement from the ministry, it is stated that in a first stage, Kahirós will produce 77 tons of green hydrogen per year and consume 7.2 GWh of energy per year, in addition to using 4,200 liters of water per day "which will be returned to the environment in the form of steam," it specifies.
The plant, which consists of a 2 MW electrolyser, is expected to produce 36 kilos of hydrogen per hour. A third part of the project is a hydro-fuelling station, which will allow the fluid to be loaded onto trucks.
It is added that the load in each of the six trucks in the fleet will be 68 kilos of hydrogen in less than 30 minutes, with a range of more than 700 km, and units suitable for transporting up to 48 tons.
The photovoltaic plant
In the Summary Environmental Report (IAR) , which sets out the relevant characteristics of the project and its corresponding Environmental Impact Study, it can be read that the photovoltaic plant will have an installed capacity of 3.9 MW.
The document specifies that it will consist of "9,100 Jinkosolar JKM535M-7TL4-V single-sided photovoltaic modules of 535 Wp each, installed in 325 fixed structures of 2Vx28, with an inclination angle of 25°, which will supply a total power of 4.87 MWp (28 series of modules)."
And it adds: "The installed capacity will feed 13 330KTL-H1 string inverters of 330kVA at 33°C / 300kVA at 40°C, connected to a single 3.90 MW transformer substation at 40°C."
Although the complex will occupy a total area of ??24 hectares, located in the La Víbora area, the space directly affected by the project will reach an area of ??close to 8.4 hectares. |
