Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Limited (KMEW) has secured a ?147.43 crore contract from the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for fairway maintenance along two critical stretches of National Waterway-1 on the River Ganga. Announced on October 28, the three-year contract covers the Sultanganj-Mahendrapur (74 km) and Mahendrapur-Barh (71 km) segments and is extendable by two additional years.
This award, marking KMEW’s third contract with IWAI, brings its total managed waterway stretch to 365 kilometers. For the project, KMEW will deploy three cutter suction dredgers and three work boats to maintain safe navigation. The contract is part of the World Bank-backed Jal Marg Vikas Project, which aims to enhance India’s inland waterway infrastructure.
CEO Sujay Kewalramani noted that this is KMEW’s largest domestic contract to date, pushing its order book with IWAI beyond ?270 crore and establishing KMEW as a key dredging partner for the authority. Founded in 2015, KMEW has grown from a ship-repair unit to a full-service marine engineering company, working with clients including the Ministry of External Affairs and various Indian port trusts. The scope of this contract includes maintenance dredging and river conservancy operations to ensure safe vessel movement along the specified waterway stretches. |
