Work Detail Maintenance is planned for Colombia’s troubled Hisgaura Bridge. The controversial Hisgaura Bridge in Colombia will benefit from additional maintenance work. The construction firm that led the project to build the link, Sacyr, has been asked by Colombian road institute INVIAS to carry out the maintenance work. The cable-stayed bridge is 653m in length, the longest of its type in South America and is part of the road connection linking Malaga and Los Curos. It is 148m high, with construction work having started in 2014 and being completed in early 2020. The design features a single traffic lane in either direction as well as pedestrian walkways on either side and spans a deep gorge that proved a barrier to travel until the construction of the bridge. However, the US$35 million bridge gained notoriety when it opened due to its uneven deck surface. This caused considerable comment at the time, although testing carried out by Sacyr is said to show the structure to be safe for use. This additional maintenance work will further ensure the integrity of the structure.
