Work Detail Scotland’s Green Marine UK has unveiled the completion of over 50 cable operations, described as complex undertakings, across oil and gas, offshore wind, subsea datacentre sectors, and emerging marine energy technologies. According to Green Marine UK, the projects have been a combination of full management by the company or subcontractor responsibilities for key elements of cable works. The Scottish player had a key role in several projects, including working with Naval Group on Microsoft’s Project Natick and supporting tidal energy developers Orbital and Meygen, alongside Swedish wave energy developer CorPower Ocean. The firm’s recent contracts involved cable (de)burial campaigns with 23 Degrees Renewables and Nexans for the Seagreen Wind Farm, located off Scotland, and maintenance work with N-Sea at the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in North Wales. The Scottish company’s Orkney-based operations are said to offer specialized multicat vessels, experienced crews, and engineering services ranging from vessel charters to turnkey cable handling solutions. Green Marine UK’s support for offshore cable projects includes vessel charter, controlled flow excavation (CFE), trenching, cable laying, recovery and repair services, pre-lay grapnel run (PLGR), cable pull-in and pull-out, and dry mate connector (DMC) jointing, among other services. Terry Norquay, Green Marine UK’s Operations Manager, said: “Green Marine UK have been supporting complex and multi-faceted cable operations for more than a decade, and we’ve now surpassed our 50th significant project. It’s a track record which spans across many offshore segments, and ultimately builds trust and confidence to drive future growth.” Other projects include Sustainable Marine’s tidal turbines installation and decommissioning in Canada’s Bay of Fundy and cable installation for BT’s R100 North contract, aimed at extending broadband in Scotland’s Northern and Western Isles. Green Marine UK’s services extend to offshore survey work using hydrographic equipment for multi-beam surveys and onshore data processing. Towage, salvage operations, and support from naval architects, offshore masters, project engineers, and structural experts are also part of the offering. Green Marine MD Jason Schofield added: “In recent years Green Marine has fast advanced from a vessel charter business to one of the UK’s leading marine services providers. By offering turnkey solutions, we relieve a major headache for clients removing financial risk and complications associated with using multiple subcontractors.” The Scottish company, together with a compatriot firm, finished the first phase of decommissioning of the OpenHydro tidal energy platform in the Orkney Islands in July.
