A hearing was held on a petition filed by GIFT Power Company Limited regarding its compliance with renewable energy purchase obligations (RPO) for the financial year 2021-2022. The company sought approval for revising the target for purchasing renewable energy due to challenges in procuring the required amount.
During the hearing, the representative for GIFT Power explained the company’s efforts to meet the RPO targets. It attempted to purchase renewable energy from power exchanges but faced difficulties due to low trading volume and high prices. The company managed to procure 3.81 lakh units of renewable energy and also took into account energy generated by some distributed solar PV plants in the area. However, these efforts were not sufficient to meet the full RPO target for the year.
In compliance with previous directives, GIFT Power issued public notices in newspapers and on its website, inviting comments and suggestions from stakeholders regarding its petition. No objections were received, and the company submitted an affidavit of compliance to the regulatory commission.
The commission noted GIFT Power’s efforts but requested additional justification for why it could not meet the RPO targets fully. The company was given two weeks to provide further explanations regarding its efforts and the status of its renewable energy agreements. The commission also directed GIFT Power to file any additional written submissions within 10 days of the hearing.
The matter has now been reserved for final orders. The commission will review the company’s submissions and decide on the petition. |
