Voltalia announced that its subsidiary Helexia has acquired 28 megawatts of agricultural photovoltaic hangars in France. Another Voltalia subsidiary, Terravene, which focuses on agricultural land management, now further expands its services to farmers.
Helexia’s acquisition includes 202 solar roofs installed on farm buildings, all of which are operational and benefit from 20-year electricity sales contracts.
Together, Voltalia, Helexia, and Terravene are providing farmers with complementary services, including agrivoltaics and eco-grazing solutions.
In March 2021, Voltalia launched its first agrivoltaic project, Cabanon1, which combines vegetable production with photovoltaic electricity generation on the same land, using dynamic shades to protect crops from extreme weather conditions.
Since 2023, Terravene has developed a land management solution that helps young farmers establish their operations by financing part of the land through the installation of an agrivoltaic park, addressing long-term farm sustainability and generational renewal.
Voltalia has also implemented projects combining solar power and sheep eco-grazing and recently expanded its agrivoltaic solutions to cattle farming. In September 2024, the Poisy2 demonstrator was launched to analyze the effects of photovoltaic systems on cattle farming, particularly in terms of animal welfare, behavior, and forage production. The three entities now collaborate under the 1,2,3 Soleil initiative, offering customized solar and agricultural solutions to meet farmers’ needs. This approach helps sustain farms, supports generational renewal, and promotes renewable electricity production.
“The acquisition of these new agricultural photovoltaic hangars once again demonstrates our commitment to contributing to the energy transition by offering tailored solutions for farmers, in addition to our offer for industrial and commercial customers”, says Benjamin Simonis, Chief Executive Officer of Helexia Group.
“By combining the strengths of Helexia, Terravene and Voltalia, we provide the agricultural sector with innovative, sustainable energy solutions that combine with agricultural production over the very long term”, adds Sébastien Clerc, Chief Executive Officer of Voltalia. |
