The Madhya Pradesh government has granted in-principle approval for the Metro train project connecting the major cities of Indore and Ujjain, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced recently. In addition to the Metro, a separate railway track will be constructed for the Rapid Rail project between the two cities, and all railway routes in Ujjain are set to be strengthened, according to the CM.
Currently, the first phase of metro projects in Indore and Bhopal is underway, with approvals for subsequent phases already secured.
Recently, the Yadav-led government revealed plans to establish a new metropolitan city by merging parts of Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar districts. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the Malwa-Nimar region into a significant economic hub, attracting investment and promoting growth.
The proposed metropolitan city will leverage the strengths of each area: Indore will serve as the commercial anchor, Ujjain will provide strategic connectivity due to its historical trade significance, Dewas will contribute with its industrial capabilities, and Dhar will enhance agricultural development.
In a related development, CM Yadav, during a press conference addressing preparations for Simhastha-2028 in Ujjain, confirmed that the tender process for the six-lane highway between Ujjain and Indore has been completed, and the foundation for the Ujjain-Jaora Green Highway will be laid soon.
Additionally, Yadav announced plans to enhance facilities for saints and seers in Ujjain, drawing inspiration from Haridwar. "We have developed a plan with input from public representatives to establish Ujjain as a religious destination akin to Haridwar, focusing on the construction of Dharamshalas, medical centres, and Ayurveda facilities through interested devotees," he stated. |
