Work Detail |
This is based on the 2023 balance sheet of the National Registry of Renewable Energy (RENOVA), a tool promoted by the National Electric Coordinator. It went from having 177 companies to 206; in terms of energy, it is 60% more.
The National Electric Coordinator of Chile (CEN), through the National Registry of Renewable Energy (RENOVA) tool, has concluded that during 2023, 206 contracts were drawn up between generators and free clients with accredited use of that source.
According to the CEN, this represents a 68% increase in its use compared to 2022, when 177 were registered .
If we focus on the negotiated energy, it is 19,991 GWh in 2023, which compared to the 11,874 GWh of the previous year, implies a total electricity traced equivalent to "around 40% of the consumption of free clients," according to a statement.
By region of the country, most renewable energy is used in Antofagasta (11,690 GWh), Santiago (2,058 GWh), Valparaíso (2,056 GWh) and Atacama (1,813 GWh).
The above, Antofagastas leadership, is related to the economic sector that leads its use, mining, with 17,474 GWh (87.16%); followed -far behind- by ??industry, 1,877 GWh (9.36%); residential, 329 GWh (1.64%), wine, 61.15 GWh (0.31%); transport, 62.3 GWh (0.32%); forestry, 644.6 GWH (0.72%), and others 171,076
Another relevant fact from RENOVAs 2023 report is that 168 companies had a CO2 emission factor equal to zero, while in the previous years report there were 101.
Created in 2019 - based on work promoted the previous year by the Environment and Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Energy -, RENOVA centralizes traceability and operates based on blockchain technology, which makes it possible to avoid double counting of energy, as well as providing information required by consumers. |
