The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), recently took part in the BRICS Ministers of Energy meeting held in Moscow, Russia. Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, led the delegation, emphasizing the UAE’s dedication to multilateral efforts in addressing global energy security and sustainability.
During the meeting, Al Olama highlighted the UAE’s role within BRICS, aligning its goals with broader international climate action. He noted that collaboration among nations is crucial to overcoming shared energy challenges and advancing innovative solutions.
“As a member of BRICS, the UAE is committed to driving collective climate action, recognizing international cooperation as the most effective way to address energy obstacles,” said Al Olama.
He also referenced the outcomes of COP28, describing it as a pivotal moment in the global fight against climate change. “COP28 delivered the UAE Consensus, offering a roadmap for climate action until 2030 and setting the stage for deeper reductions in greenhouse gas emissions,” he added.
The UAE continues to be a leader in renewable energy, focusing on accelerating progress while maintaining grid stability. Al Olama emphasized that enhanced collaboration between regulators and industry will enable the UAE to surpass its renewable energy targets, solidifying its position in the global energy transition.
In his concluding remarks, Al Olama reiterated the UAE’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, stating, “The UAE will continue to spearhead the energy transition at the necessary scale and pace to meet global climate commitments.” |
