Work Detail PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe announced tender procedures worth PLN 11.8 billion (EUR 2.74 billion) to modernise and build new tracks and concluded contracts for PLN 14.6 billion (EUR 3.4 billion) this year. By the end of the year, it is planned to announce further tenders and reach a total amount of PLN 17.5 billion (EUR 4 billion) for this year. “We are implementing an ambitious plan to close 2024 with the amount of PLN 17.5 billion [EUR 4 billion] in new investment tenders. The investment process we are conducting shows the very good condition of the company, and the market will be busy for many years,” Piotr Wyborski, President of the Management Board of PLK SA, said. The Polish rail infrastructure manager tendered the contract to build new tracks and modernise existing stops on the line between Warsaw Wawer and Otwock, located in Warsaw agglomeration. The contract is expected to be signed in 2025 and the project should be completed in 2028. PLN 1.8 billion (EUR 418.37 million) is the estimated value of the project co-financed by the European Commission under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment programme for 2021-2027 (FEnIKS). The result of the project consists of four tracks between Warsaw and Otwock which will allow the separation of long-distance and regional train traffic between Warsaw Wschodnia and Warsaw Wawer stations. As part of the project, the rail crossings will be eliminated, by replacing them with tunnels and a road viaduct. Under the project, PKP PLK will also build eight new stops and a new station in Falenica, a district in southeastern Warsaw area. All facilities will be equipped with passenger information systems. 20 new underpasses are planned to be built, while existing underpass at the station in Falenica and the bridges over the Swider River will be reconstructed, and new ones will be constructed. For the comfort of residents, acoustic screens covered with greenery will be installed along the tracks. Other tenders to modernise and build new tracks include the Bialystok – Elk and Skierniewice – Czachówek Wschodni – Pilawa, for which EUR 223 million CEF funding agreements have been signed. “In addition to the visible impulse for the construction industry and the impact on economic growth, passengers gain an increasingly wide network of fast connections, we eliminate architectural barriers at stations and stops, and we improve the conditions for transporting goods,” said Marcin Mochocki, Member of the Management Board of PLK SA, and Director for Investment Implementation.
