Work Detail Adif has awarded the contract for the comprehensive renovation of the Buñol-Utiel section on Valencia’s C3 commuter line for EUR 71.3 million, thereby giving a new boost to the Valencian Community’s Commuter Rail Plan. The project will contribute to increasing the reliability, availability, efficiency, effectiveness, modernity, functionality and resilience of the infrastructure and traffic, strengthening the quality standards of the operation of the service, standardising the track elements (rails and sleepers), providing greater regularity to traffic and contributing to an increase in the speed of trains, while increasing comfort for passengers. It will also make the facilities more robust, optimising maintenance work and costs by installing more durable materials and equipment. Another objective is to minimise the probability of incidents affecting the service that are directly related to the operation of the infrastructure. The works, which have been awarded to the Temporary Union of Companies (UTE) formed by the companies Azvi and CHM Obras e Infraestructuras, are added to other relevant investments in this area, such as the modernisation of the Sollana-Cullera section, in the execution phase, and the upcoming start of the track renewal between Xàtiva and Alcoi. Main works on Buñol-Utiel section The works will be carried out in the municipalities of Utiel, Requena, Siete Aguas and Buñol, in the province of Valencia. On a 45.6 km stretch, the track (rail, sleepers and ballast) will be completely renovated on the main line and the Utiel and El Rebollar sidings, where new track devices (switches) will also be installed. Drains and gutters will also be cleaned, protected against landslides and consolidated by installing triple-twisted mesh, cable nets, bolted and gunite. On the other hand, the dimensions of the platforms at the stations of Utiel, El Rebollar, San Antonio de Requena, Requena, Siete Aguas and Venta Mina will be adapted to fit the new track layout. The project also includes the adaptation of the section of the 13 tunnels of the section, in anticipation of a future electrification of the line with 25 kV catenary. In addition, civil works will be carried out on the structures of 10 bridges and 22 overpasses. Likewise, inspections of the transversal drainage works are planned – as established between the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) and Adif – to guarantee the flows corresponding to a return period of 25 years. On the other hand, Adif has also awarded, for EUR 3.9 million, the contract for assistance and consultancy for the control and monitoring of these works, which will correspond to the UTE made up of Associated Consultants, Engineering and Urban Planning, Cota a Cota Engineering and Topography, and Applus Norcontrol. The action contributes to the fulfillment of several of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9 (promotion of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure) and 11 (access to safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems). This action has European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
