Six companies submitted bids in the bidding process for the expansion of the Jail of Regional Unit I (URI) of Santa Rosa. The activity took place last Thursday in the meeting room of the Ministry of Public Works and Services of La Pampa.
The event was attended by the Ministers of Security and Justice, Horacio di Nápoli, and of Public Works and Services, Alfredo Intronati, together with the Chief of Police of La Pampa, Claudio Cano, and the Director of Public Works and Services, Antonela Dosso. The bidders were: IACO Construcciones SA; ILKA Construcciones SA; ECOP Construcciones SRL; Canalis Antonella; Innokonst SA; and José Rubén Fernández.
The project aims to increase the capacity of persons deprived of liberty to accommodate better conditions of detention. "The current jail, located at 850 Liberato Rosas Street, has 40 cells. With the expansion, the total number of cells will increase to 72, distributed in pavilions that will have recreational services, toilets and a visiting room," they indicated and specified that the expanded building will cover an area of ??1,292 square meters, divided into 932 square meters corresponding to pavilions and dependencies, and 360 square meters covered, intended for the detention yards.
Minister Horacio di Nápoli stressed the importance of this work in the context of efforts to improve detention conditions. “It is essential that the detention system not only guarantees security, but also meets appropriate standards. This extension is another step towards that goal,” he said.
He also stressed the need to maintain the prison infrastructure in line with population growth and the demands of the judicial system. “This work, together with the work being carried out in General Pico, greatly helps the work being done, being able to decompress police stations in the interior that are in charge of prisoners. Without a doubt, it benefits everyone,” he concluded.

For his part, Alfredo Intronati said, “We hope to move forward as soon as possible with the process to award and start the works that are so necessary in these times. The provincial government is providing the financing and gives companies peace of mind that the works that are started will be completed.”
“We continue with the policy set by Governor Sergio Ziliotto that public works in La Pampa do not stop and we continue to move forward on all unfulfilled contracts. We are giving continuity and guaranteeing the completion of the national government works that the financing commitment, since December 10, is not being carried out,” Intronati concluded.
Cano, for his part, stressed the importance of the project in operational terms. "This type of expansion allows us to work with greater peace of mind and security, not only for the detainees, but also for the police personnel who carry out their work in often demanding conditions," he concluded.
