Work Detail | Agreement to supply 575GWh from German hydropower for Rhine-Ruhr industry Du¨sseldorf-based Uniper and an unnamed major international industrial gas producer have signed a nine-year Power Purchase Agreement for a total of 575GWh from German hydropower. The green energy supplied in the deal will be used to produce green hydrogen. Deliveries will start in 2025 with an initial annual volume of 25GWh and will support decarbonisation efforts in Rhine-Ruhr industrial region. This will triple to 75GWh from 2027 until the end of the contract in 2033. “Climate change is forcing companies to reduce their CO2 emissions,” said Uniper chief commercial officer Carsten Poppinga (pictured). He added: “This contract demonstrates Uniper’s ability to meet customer needs and confirms its role as a reliable partner in the energy transition. “Our flexible energy generation assets support the restructuring of the energy industry while ensuring security of supply. “We are delighted that our PPA is helping to accelerate the decarbonisation of a large German industrial region. “This is another step on Uniper’s path towards becoming a leading provider of green molecules and power products.” |
