The Abel Amaya neighborhood is getting closer to the long-awaited connection to the natural gas network, benefiting 174 families. The bidding event took place last Friday, where the envelopes were opened for the “Natural Gas Network Expansion” that includes blocks 29 to 32, 52, 57, 61 to 64 and 74 to 78. This project has an official budget of $578,371,434.00 and a deadline of 270 days.
The project involves laying 2,785 meters of pipes and installing 174 residential services, including shut-off valves and prefabricated niches. Four companies: Freile Construcciones SRL, Gresuco SA, Precap SRL and Choel SRL, were presented to carry out the work.
Carolina Arias, one of the most active residents demanding basic services, told Crónica that she was satisfied: “We have been fighting for this for more than 15 years. Along with three other residents, there have been few of us who have gotten involved, but we have finally achieved this progress.”
Arias highlighted the contact with the Secretary of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Luis Romero, and the Undersecretary Clarisa Méndez. “I saw them personally, they gave me their word and told me that the tender would be launched on October 4, so I am more than satisfied with that.”
The lack of natural gas has directly affected all the families in the neighborhood, especially Ariass, since her daughter is asthmatic and suffers the consequences of using firewood and salamanders.
Although he is not part of the neighborhood commission, he has persisted in his efforts and regretted the lack of support from the neighborhood councilor. “I have done this as a community, without receiving anything in return. Unfortunately, we were a minority who collaborated. We wanted to have more support from the neighborhood councilors, because they have never been present. I expected from the neighborhood councilor Mario Castillo at least a thank you and the truth is that it is regrettable to see this type of situation,” he said.
Arias also took the opportunity to thank Mayor Othar Macharashvili and the municipal authorities, as well as the media that have brought the situation in the neighborhood to light. Finally, he recalled: “Don’t forget that there is still a lot of work to be done here in the neighborhood, things that have been left unfinished with the issue of the street covers that had been removed, the stairs that are in poor condition and the state of the streets,” he concluded.
