Work Detail Metronet announced that the Ellenbrook railway line will be inaugurated on December 8, 2024, with special train services to run on the day and on December 9, commercial services will begin. The 21 km line starts at Bayswater station with five new stations at Morley, Noranda, Ballajura, Whiteman Park and Ellenbrook. New stations have been built in Morley, Noranda, Ballajura (formerly Malaga), Whiteman Park, and Ellenbrook, while the Bayswater station has been rebuilt. A future station is planned at Bennett Springs East. Recently, the Ellenbrook station has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Railway Stations v1.1 certification, making it the highest rated under this tool. The rating is equivalent to world leadership in sustainable design and construction. Project Sustainability Lead Virginia Castellano acknowledged the efforts of the team in achieving the rating. The rating was achieved by utilising innovative materials, reducing energy and water consumption through construction and operation, incorporating Indigenous design and native plants, and design elements to ensure the station is safe and accessible. The project also included the construction of two road bridges, one rail bridge, three pedestrian underpasses, two viaducts and one portal. The new line is Perth’s largest public transport project since the Mandurah Line and will support approximately 6,500 jobs and help shape vibrant new communities. The Ellenbrook Line starts at Bayswater station on the Midland Line, travelling in the centre of Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the western side of Drumpellier Drive (formerly New Lord Street) and ends in Ellenbrook, south of The Parkway. The first train test has been launched in on August 26, and followed a rigorous testing programme to ensure all infrastructure and systems are tested for safety and comfort. The new Ellenbrook railway line will give people in the north – eastern Perth suburbs more transport options to travel to work, school and the metropolitan area, and also transport options to the Airport and broader Perth train network. Passengers will be able to travel to Perth from Ellenbrook in 31 minutes. The project is part of Metronet programme under which this summer the 14.5 km Yanchep railway extension has been opened.
