Work Detail The Port Consortium confirmed that the Spanish company Canlemar SL will carry out the work with a budget of 6.5 million dollars. The dredging work for the Port of Mar del Plata, which aims to improve navigability for ships entering and leaving, took a key administrative step on Friday, as the Port Consortium decided to accept the proposal of the only company that participated in the tender: the Spanish company Canlemar SL. With a budget of 6.5 million dollars, the work will take 150 calendar days. Two weeks after the opening of the envelopes, in which it was learned that only one offer had been submitted in the bidding process, this Friday the Port Consortium of Mar del Plata accepted the proposal of the Spanish firm Canlemar SL and will now move towards the award. According to the Buenos Aires agency headed by Marcos Gutiérrez, the company - which already carried out similar work in the port of Mar del Plata in 2017 and 2018 - responded to a request to improve the original budget presented weeks ago and finally quoted the dredging work at an amount of 6,554,545.80 dollars. With this new step, the consortium explained that it will now move forward with the formal award of the tender launched in August, which includes the dredging of the inner and outer access channels, the turning area near the flammable post and the docking fronts of sections eight and nine of Pier 2. They also stated that the tasks will be carried out by the company within a period of 150 calendar days. “With our own resources, without any assistance from the national State, we will undertake this public work that will allow us to maintain the conditions of full operation and navigation safety to sustain and enhance the dynamics and growth of activity in our port,” said Gutiérrez. The Port Consortium stressed that the project aims to maintain optimal conditions of depth and width of the channel, "especially to ensure the entry and exit of large vessels that call at the terminal, such as tankers transporting fuel and container ships linked to foreign trade operations." The last dredging of the port of Mar del Plata was carried out between November 2021 and March 2022 in the main access channel, in the turning area, in the fuel post and in the docking front of Pier 2. At that time, the Danish company Rohde Nielsen was in charge of carrying out the tasks with the dredger "Idun R" and in exchange for 5.2 million dollars.
