Work Detail The transformation of the center is moving forward: details of the mega-project in the former bus terminal The revaluation of the center of the department is underway with the ambitious work in the former bus terminal. Neighbors and merchants eagerly await the end of the works that promise to improve circulation and commerce, although temporary inconveniences are inevitable. Since the work began in the building located in the heart of downtown San Rafael, the pace has been constant and there have been no pauses, according to the director of Municipal Works, Andrea Fichetti, who provided details on the progress of the works. The former bus terminal will become a key space for urban revitalization, and the impact is already being felt in the surrounding streets. "What impacts the neighbors the most is the street closures, especially on the route of Coronel Suárez between Avellaneda and Godoy Cruz, as well as on Avellaneda between Coronel Suárez and Corrientes. “There we are making progress with concrete work, curbs, lining of ditches and bridges,” Fichetti told Diario San Rafael and FM Vos 94.5. She also highlighted that the crossings at Almafuerte and Coronel Suárez are currently being finished, and that the last crossing at Avellaneda will soon be concreted. The work, which is taking place both on the road and inside the building, is maintaining a constant pace with around 90 to 100 workers working on different fronts. “We are not only making progress on the streets and sidewalks, but also inside the building, where work is being carried out on the electrical installation, drains and roof covering,” the official added. These works, although not visible to passers-by, are essential for the comprehensive transformation of the space. One of the points most awaited by residents and merchants is the opening of traffic in the affected areas. Fichetti explained that the intention is to clear the Avellaneda section as soon as possible, but stressed the need for patience: “We know that it is uncomfortable to have construction work on top of it, but this will generate a radical change in the physiognomy and aesthetics of the place, which will attract more people. We aim to open traffic before Mother’s Day, although the Avellaneda section will be ready to circulate with caution in a few days.” The merchants in the area have expressed their support, but also their desire for the work to be completed soon. “We are talking to the neighbors and merchants, and although there is some discomfort, they understand that the works will bring a great benefit in the long term,” said Fichetti. “Opening traffic is a priority, but always taking into account the necessary security measures, such as the regulatory closure of the works,” he clarified. As for the type of paving, the director confirmed that “Avellaneda will have concrete slabs, as well as at the intersection of streets, while the intermediate areas will have cobblestones.” Coronel Suárez, for its part, will combine both types of paving, depending on the section. One of the most critical aspects of the work has been the drainage and sewer network, which has affected the progress on the streets. However, Fichetti assured that this work is practically finished. “The networks are already ready, which has allowed us to move forward with the concrete slabs on the roadway,” she explained. Although the current focus is on the streets, the director emphasized that the building is still in the process of remodeling: “Inside the building, work is being done that cannot be seen, but which is essential, such as the electrical installations and the finishes.” Regarding the estimated date of the total completion of the work, Fichetti was cautious: “I don’t want to rush to give an exact date, because the finishing touches are the ones that take the longest and there are always details that arise that improve the project and that can take a little longer. However, we hope that by the middle of next year everything will be finished.” The project will not only expand the downtown area of ??San Rafael, but will also contribute to decongesting the most compressed areas of the center, generating a new point of attraction for commerce and services. The municipal mayor has closely followed the development of the work, and Fichetti stressed that “he is satisfied with the progress,” which reaffirms the importance of this project for the future of the city.
