The Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2024, held from October 3-5 in Greater Noida, secured investments worth ?1,850 crore for the biogas sector, according to a senior official from the Indian Biogas Association (IBA). These investments, which are expected to be realized over the next two to three years, reflect growing international interest, particularly from countries like Germany, Sweden, and the UK.
“We have signed MoUs worth over ?900 crore for joint ventures and received nearly 50 Letters of Intent (LoIs) for setting up compressed biogas plants in India,” said Gaurav Kedia, Chairman of IBA.
Founded in 2011 and revamped in 2015, the IBA serves as a national platform for bioenergy operators, manufacturers, and planners, and collaborates with global organizations like the German Biogas Association to drive the growth of Indias biogas sector.
The REI Expo, one of India’s largest renewable energy events, focuses on bioenergy, solar, wind, electric vehicles, and energy efficiency. Supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), this year’s Bio-Energy Pavilion was aimed at accelerating India’s journey toward net-zero emissions
IBA President Dr. A.R. Shukla highlighted the expo’s success, noting the strong support from MNRE and the participation of scientists from Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), Kapurthala. He stressed that bioenergy has the potential to unlock energy self-sufficiency in India and could fully replace fossil fuels with the right policy backing. |
