A total of ?14,700 crore has been allocated to Madhya Pradesh for railway development, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday. During a virtual event, the railway minister flagged off a new train service from Jaura to Kailaras in Morena district, following the conversion of the route from narrow gauge to broad gauge.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Speaker Narendra Tomar also participated in the event by waving green flags as the train departed from Jaura station. Vaishnaw highlighted that five Vande Bharat trains are currently operational in Madhya Pradesh. He noted that in the last decade, the state has seen the completion of 222 kilometers of new rail lines, 1,200 kilometers of multi-tracking, and 707 kilometers of gauge conversion.
The conversion of the Gwalior-Sheopurkalan narrow gauge track, spanning 188 kilometers, is underway at a cost of ?2,355 crore. The 61-kilometer stretch between Jaura and Kailaras has already been converted, with the gauge conversion project expected to be completed by July 2025. Vaishnaw emphasized that this initiative will enhance the socio-economic development of Morena, accelerate industrial growth, create job opportunities, and reduce transportation costs and travel time.
In addition to improving connectivity, the ministry is also employing drones and GPS trackers for disaster management and project monitoring. Vaishnaw mentioned that both Gwalior and Khajuraho railway stations are slated for redevelopment, enhancing passenger services in the region. |
