The City of Barrie announced that the Bryne Drive South extension, which connects Harvie Road through to Caplan Avenue, is open.
The City of Barrie began constructing this road in 2023 and opened it today ahead of the anticipated completion date. Earlier this afternoon, Mayor Alex Nuttall officially opened the extension by cutting a ribbon and being the first resident to drive on it in one of the City’s new electric pick-up trucks.
“‘Finally’ is the word I keep hearing about the completion of the Bryne Drive South extension, and it couldn’t be more fitting,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “Residents have patiently awaited this project, and I’m grateful to City staff for delivering it ahead of schedule. The opening of the Bryne Drive South extension will greatly enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow in the south end, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.”
This $16-million construction project features the following:
Five lanes with sidewalks and separated cycling lanes
A new sanitary sewer, new watermain, and stormwater treatment systems
Enhanced landscape plan, including new tree plantings
The Bryne Drive South extension was built to make it easier for residents to get around in the City’s south end. This new link forms part of planned network improvements to improve traffic flow to Highway 400 and access to businesses in the area. |
