Work Detail |
The Czech rail infrastructure manager, Správa železnic (SŽ) has announced a tender for construction works on the section between Nezamyslice and Kojetín, on Brno – Prerov rail line.
The construction should begin in June 2025, and it will be completed according to the plan in December 2028. The estimated total costs exceed CZK 7.7 billion (EUR 303.7 million).
Works cover the construction of the second track and will allow increased speeds of up to 200 km/h, the removal of all level crossings, and modernisation of the platforms which will provide barrier-free access to passenger with reduced mobility. They will be also adapted for convenient boarding of trains.
The reconstruction of the first section is expected from the middle of next year to the end of 2028.
The reconstructed section is approximately 10 km long, and works will also include the construction of a 744-metre-long Nemcický tunnel, which will lead under the Kozlov hill – on the border of the districts of Semily in the Liberec region and Jicín in the Hradec Králové region. The project also includes the construction of 8 new railway bridges, the longest of which will be 122 metres across the valley of the Žlebuvka stream.
The winner of the contract will be also responsible for the construction of two new stops with barrier-free access, one to replace the cancelled Nemcice nad Hanou station. Both stops will have parking spaces for cars and bike racks. In the event of operational emergencies, it will be possible to cross from one track to another at the new Hruška branch, which will be located in the middle of the modernised section.
Both existing crossings will be cancelled, in Nemcice due to the relocation of the railway line to a new position, in Merovice it will be replaced by a new bypass road. Part of the project also includes partial realignments of existing roads that collide with the new railway line.
The affected municipalities will be protected by new anti-noise walls. As part of the construction, the connection of the AC and DC power supply system will also be moved from Nezamyslice to Prerov. The European ETCS and the GSM-R radio system will be installed on the track.
In 2023, SŽ has awarded a EUR 22.7 million design contract for the modernisation and double tracking of a 20 km section along the Brno – Prerov rail line. The global project is split into five sections totalling more than 47 km and covers modernisation and double-track construction, as well as ETCS deployment. When entirely completed, in 2031, the project will reduce journey time between Brno and Prerov to only 30 minutes and will increase transport capacity and safety. |
