Engie Chile announces that the system is now 100% energized, and that it has already injected more than 4,000 MWh into the National Electric System (SEN). It also reports progress on the Capricorn BESS.
The Tamaya battery energy storage system (BESS), with an installed capacity of 68 MW/418 MWh, located in the Antofagasta region, is now fully energized, according to Engie Chile.
Using 152 containers, this system stores the energy generated by the Tamaya solar plant (114 MW) , also owned by the company. Tamaya, which deploys 551,000 solar panels, began feeding into the grid in December 2021 , and began commercial operation in February 2022.
The statement also reported that to date BESS Tamaya, located where the companys former diesel power plant once operated, has injected more than 4,000 MWh into the National Electric System (SEN).
BESS Tamaya is currently in the testing phase awaiting entry into commercial operation.
BESS Capricorn
The Chilean headquarters of the French multinational Engie has also announced progress on its BESS Capricornio project, which will have an installed capacity of 48MW/264MWh with energy storage for 5 hours.
According to the company, the total installation of its 96 battery containers was completed a few days ago.
Located next to the Capricornio solar plant, with 88 MWac, "it is 72% complete and the next stage is cold commissioning to then lead to its energization," it is stated.
In April, Engie inaugurated the 139 MW / 638 MWh BESS Coya storage project in the Andean country. |
