Work Detail Fire safety is one of the critical considerations when installing Building Applied Photovoltaic (BAPV) systems. In regions like the United Arab Emirates, excessive solar radiation can cause degradation of solar cells and encapsulating materials due to ultraviolet (UV) exposure. Additionally, BAPV systems are at risk of fire due to electrical arcs or overheating, especially when faults go undetected and unaddressed. Globally, the increase in fires associated with BAPV systems is attributed to the growing adoption of these systems, the rising number of projects, and the complex and insufficient fire safety standards, as well as electrical hazards, risky materials and designs, lack of awareness and training, and inadequate fire protection measures. Fire Safety Regulations The UAE enforces fire safety regulations to mitigate fire risks and their consequences, thanks to the country’s Fire and Life Safety Code, Civil Defense regulations, and local municipal requirements. Photovoltaic systems require specific considerations for fire safety, including fire resistance evaluations, compliance with testing standards, comprehensive fire risk assessments, proper installation, and access to firefighting resources. Jinko Solar’s Compliance with the Regulations In line with these regulations, Jinko Solar has taken a pioneering step by becoming the first company in the region to conduct comprehensive fire safety tests and secure approval from the relevant authorities. This preliminary report provides a thorough analysis of the fire safety tests conducted on Jinko Solar panels, adhering to the strict standards set by the UAE’s Fire and Life Safety Code and the IEC 61730-2-2023 standards. After a series of rigorous laboratory tests, the results confirm that Jinko Solar panels meet all safety standards, demonstrating their reliability in high-safety installations and fire-sensitive applications. This white Paper was prepared by Jinko Solar Team (Edgard Abou kheir) in partnership with Solarabic research team (Ameera Al Amayrah, Megna Rajagopal).
