The H2 MEET 2024, the global hydrogen industry platform for sustainable development, has concluded successfully. Held from September 25 to 27 at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1 in Goyang, South Korea, the event welcomed over 41,000 visitors, including international buyers, and featured participation from 317 companies and institutions across 24 countries.
Expanding Hydrogen Industry Horizons
The event, organized by the H2 MEET Organizing Committee under Chairperson Nam Hoon Kang, served as a key platform for showcasing the latest in hydrogen technology, addressing the full value chain from production to utilization. H2 MEET 2024 solidified its reputation as the World Hydrogen Expo, featuring a record number of participants in key categories such as hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization.
Chairperson Nam Hoon Kang expressed the significance of this year’s event, saying, “The quantitative and qualitative growth achieved by H2 MEET 2024 reflects the global awareness and urgency surrounding environmental and energy challenges. We hope this event will continue to provide a vision for the future of the hydrogen industry, with a particular focus on green hydrogen, and position itself as a leading global platform for advancing the hydrogen economy.”
Showcasing Hydrogen’s Future: Mobility and Regional Models
The exhibition showcased cutting-edge hydrogen technologies, with global industry giants like Bosch, Fortescue, and Emerson presenting innovations alongside prominent domestic companies such as Hyundai Motor Group, Korea Zinc, Kolon Industries, and HD Hyundai Infracore. Exhibits included advanced electrolysis systems, hydrogen fuel cells, and innovative hydrogen products.
In the hydrogen mobility space, visitors were introduced to hydrogen-powered buses, trucks, drones, and trams, offering a glimpse into the future of hydrogen in daily life and industry. A special hydrogen charging station pavilion provided insights into infrastructure solutions, featuring tube trailers and liquid hydrogen tankers.
Regional participation was strong, with local governments, including Gangwon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, Ulsan, and Pohang, showcasing specialized hydrogen technologies, products, and achievements from their regions. International exhibitors from Canada, Australia, Switzerland, and other countries also displayed their advancements, exploring collaborative opportunities.
Thought Leadership on Global Hydrogen Innovation
H2 MEET 2024 hosted a series of insightful forums and discussions focused on the future of hydrogen. The Leaders Summit, held on September 26 and 27, featured over 150 speakers, including representatives from the French Hydrogen Task Force, Chevron, Bloom Energy, Siemens, and Wood Mackenzie, who addressed global hydrogen industry trends and technological innovation.
The Korea-Japan-China Hydrogen Mobility Forum underscored regional cooperation, with Hyundai Motor, Toyota, and Kaiyun Motors sharing updates and exploring future mobility opportunities. In a significant addition, the U.S. made its debut at the Country Day event, contributing insights into U.S. hydrogen policy and developments. Other participating countries included Australia, Canada, and Norway, with discussions on hydrogen policies and industry trends.
The Tech Talk sessions, running across all three days, attracted the highest number of international speakers in the event’s history. These sessions focused on key technologies such as green hydrogen and solid oxide fuel cells, drawing keen interest from global participants.
Recognizing Innovation and Business Collaboration
H2 MEET 2024 also honored innovation in the hydrogen sector through the H2 Innovation Awards. Iljin Hydrogen won the grand prize for its ‘Type 4 Hydrogen Fuel Tank’, while Utility Global’s ‘H2Gen™ Reactor’ took home the best hydrogen production award. Other winners included Mt.H Control Valve for its ‘High Pressure Hydrogen Dispenser Flow Control Valve’ in the storage and transportation category, and eflow’s ‘1.5Kw Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Generator’ for hydrogen utilization.
In the business realm, the Global Partnership Consultations, co-hosted with KORTA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), facilitated around 250 meetings between 56 domestic companies and 31 buyers from 12 countries, including Malaysia, China, and Egypt. These discussions resulted in over $380 million in business deals and the signing of five MOUs, providing a foundation for domestic companies to expand internationally. MOUs were signed with companies such as Zephyros, Sentec ENG, Hydrogen Tech, and GHS.
Global Media Engagement and Recognition
The event drew significant media attention, with outlets such as Argus (UK), H2 Mobile (France), Sohu (China), and SolarQuarter (India) covering the exhibition. Domestic reporters selected the ‘H2 MEET Best Product Media Awards’, while international journalists awarded the ‘Global Media Pick’ to help exhibitors reach a broader global audience.
