Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a new soft drink bottling and dairy product plant by Varun Beverages, a PepsiCo franchisee, on Sunday, emphasizing the role of the states security environment in attracting investment. The plant, located near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, represents an investment of ?1,170 crore.
Adityanath remarked that the states "strong security environment and zero-tolerance policy towards crime" have deterred those who once considered crime a viable profession. "Investment flourishes only in a secure environment. If people dont feel safe, their capital will also not be safe," he stated.
He referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for youth to pursue entrepreneurship over traditional employment, highlighting it as a vital path to job creation. Adityanath noted that developed nations prioritize entrepreneurship, research, and innovation, which are essential for generating employment opportunities.
In his address, the chief minister outlined the significant progress Uttar Pradesh has made as an investment destination over the past seven years, attributing this to enhanced security and law-and-order policies. "The government is dedicated to maintaining zero tolerance towards crime because ensuring safety now is essential for securing a better future," he said.
Adityanath shared insights into the investment initiatives his government has implemented since taking office in 2017. He recalled how a dedicated team was formed to explore investment opportunities in the state, which initially aimed to attract ?20,000 crore in investments. The efforts culminated in the Global Investors Summit held in February 2023, where proposals totaling ?40 lakh crore were secured.
During a recent ground-breaking ceremony attended by Prime Minister Modi, the foundation was laid for investment proposals worth ?10 lakh crore, with an additional ?10 lakh crore in proposals in the pipeline, ready for implementation.
The chief minister expressed his commitment to ensuring that young people find employment opportunities closer to home, reducing the need to seek jobs in major cities or abroad. He cited the Nivesh Mitra portal as a single-window system for over 450 NOCs, and noted that investment MoUs are monitored through the Nivesh Sarathi platform.
He also mentioned the establishment of an online incentive system for investors and the appointment of a Chief Minister Fellow to address any challenges they face.
Describing Uttar Pradesh as the premier destination for investment, Adityanath affirmed that the government is continuously encouraging startups and industries, providing ample job opportunities. He highlighted that 6.5 lakh youths have secured government jobs, while two crore have found employment in the MSME sector, and 60 lakh have been linked to self-employment initiatives. |
