Work Detail |
The Southern Railways has approved the construction of three railway overbridges in the Parassala constituency, a significant infrastructure development for the area. The new overbridges will be located at Parasuvaikkal, Eythukondankani, and Kannankuzhi, enhancing safety and connectivity at major railway crossings.
The overbridges will be constructed at critical points, specifically at Eythukondankani on the Amaravila-Karakkonam Road and at Kannankuzhi on the Amaravila-Ottasekharamangalam Road. Additionally, the existing overbridge at Parasuvaikkal will undergo renovations.
These roadways are currently being upgraded with funding from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). Although the state government had submitted proposals to the railway ministry for these overbridges, initial permissions were denied due to the ongoing doubling project of the Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram railway line.
Following direct discussions between Parassala MLA C K Hareendran, MP V Sivadasan, and the Union railway minister, the railway ministry has now granted approval for the overbridges as part of the larger railway project.
Initially, a subway was proposed for the area; however, the state government opposed this due to the challenging topography, which would have made construction impractical. These concerns were effectively communicated to the Union ministry, leading to the prioritization of overbridges instead.
After a recent meeting between Hareendran, Sivadasan, and Central Railway Board chairman Satish Kumar, Southern Railway received instructions to move forward with the construction of the new overbridges at Eythukondankani and Kannankuzhi, as well as the renovation of the Parasuvaikkal overbridge. |
